A fat transfer procedure relies on a precise, three-step surgical process performed under general anesthesia or twilight sedation. First, the surgeon uses gentle liposuction to harvest healthy fat cells from a “donor site” (usually the abdomen, thighs, or love handles). Next, this harvested tissue is placed in a specialized sterile centrifuge to spin out impurities, oils, and fluids, isolating the most robust and viable fat cells. Finally, these purified cells are meticulously reinjected into the “recipient site” using micro-cannulas to build volume in microscopic layers.

A fat transfer involves two distinct recovery zones: the donor site (where fat was removed via liposuction) and the recipient site (where fat was injected).
During your 1-night hospital stay and the first few days at your hotel, the liposuction donor sites will feel tight, sore, and bruised. You will wear a medical compression garment over these areas to manage swelling. Conversely, the recipient sites (face, breasts, hands, etc.) will be swollen but must remain free from any tight compression. You must avoid touching, rubbing, or icing the newly grafted areas, as the fragile fat cells need time to establish a new blood supply.
Bruising will gradually fade over two weeks. The survival of your grafted fat depends entirely on this crucial window. You must protect the recipient area from prolonged pressure. For example, BBL patients cannot sit directly on their buttocks, and facial transfer patients must sleep on their backs. You must also avoid strenuous cardio, smoking, and extreme diets, as a caloric deficit can cause your body to metabolize the newly transferred fat cells before they establish permanent roots.
It is clinically normal for the body to naturally absorb between 30% and 40% of the injected fat during the first few months (which is why surgeons safely overfill the area slightly during surgery). By the 6-month mark, whatever fat has survived is considered permanent, living tissue. MD. Yeşiladalı graduated from the Istanbul University–Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine and completed his residency in Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery at Haydarpaşa Numune Training and Research Hospital. With a scholarship from the Turkish-German Medical Association, he pursued further training at the University of Giessen in Germany. His success in both written and oral exams in Austria and Belgium earned him membership in EBOPRAS (European Board of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery). Since 2006, he has performed thousands of facial, breast, and body-contouring surgeries. He consistently performs an average of more than 15 surgeries per week. In 2016, MD. Yeşiladalı founded Vanity, where he began leading the surgical team and continues to advance techniques in rhinoplasty, liposuction, and fat transfer. He speaks German, English, and Turkish.
